POS operators can easily sell options, features, and upsells.
Options
'Small Drink', 'Medium Drink' and 'Large Drink' have options.
When the operator selects 'Large Drink', a new selection box appears, offering the available Options with the Prompt Text (for example, “What flavour would you like?”) as the title.
The operator can select one or more of the options. Each will appear as a line in the order.
Features
If, for example, a pizza is ordered and selected, and then the Greek Pizza option is chosen, POS offers available extras (Features). The customer can then select things like Anchovies or extra serves of Onions.
Upsell
Upsell operates differently. When a customer purchases a concession that has upsell items associated with it, the upsell items are indicated to the POS operator in two ways:
A distinctive arrow appears next to the item in the order panel.
The Open Line button is enabled in the order panel when the Upsell item is highlighted. Pressing this button displays the Upsell concessions that are available with this item.
Note: It is possible to upsell items automatically through a system configuration. If this configuration is activated, the Upsell options will be displayed automatically as soon as the parent item is added to the Order Panel. If the Upsell offer is not accepted at this point, the arrow and the Open Line button will be visible for this item, allowing the POS operator to return to the Upsell offer if the customer wishes.
The default value for this pair of system settings is zero (0) which effectively turns them off. Both must be set at a value greater than zero before Suggested Upsell will operate.
Upsell system settings
These two system settings work in tandem and both conditions must be met before a Suggested Upsell is offered. The default value for this pair of system settings is zero (0) which effectively turns them off. Both must be set to a value greater than zero before suggested upsell will operate.
- UpsellItemQtyPercentage: If you set this value at 51%, the following comes into effect payment time:
POS will examine the order and look for groups of items which can be matched to a combo.
If it finds a group of items within the order which match 51% or more of the items in a combo and it also meets the criterion for 'UpsellItemValuePercentage', then the upsell combo will be offered as a suggested upsell for the original order item. - UpsellItemValuePercentage: If you set this value at 51%, the following comes into effect at payment time:
POS will examine the order and look for a combo of similar value.
If it finds a combo where the value is 51% or more of the original ordered item and it also meets the criterion for 'UpsellItemQtyPercentage', then the upsell combo will be offered as a suggested upsell for the original order.
No other configuration is required to activate Suggested Upsell. However it relies on the premise that combos are constructed from Sellable Items that are readily available from the Concessions selling screens. The combo structures should be reviewed when turning Suggested Upsell on to ensure that it functions as expected.
If, for example, an operator selects a Cappuccino that has an upsell item attached, and then selects the item in the order panel and pushes the Open Line button, a prompt appears: “Would you like anything to eat with your coffee?” offering the Cappuccino with a biscuit, or a cake etc.
The Open Line Button
The use of the Open Line button for Upsell is described above. The Open Line button also provides a way to return to a particular item and redo the Option and Feature selections.
To do this the operator simply touches the desired item line in the order panel to highlight it. If the highlighted order line has Option, Feature or Upsell selections available the Open line button will be enabled. Pushing the Open Line button will then allow the operator to redo the selection for this line item.
