Speed up service by configuring POS to automatically initiate payment processing when a payment card is swiped.
You can also use this fast-swipe function to automatically load a Loyalty member against the current order, without first having to access the Loyalty Screen.
Note:The fast swipe function is only supported for POS Workstations using a Keyboard Wedge or OPOS card stripe reader.
Before you begin
- Configure the Payment Types required by your organisation.
Setting up fast swipe payment
- In Cinema Manager > Maintenance, open Card Definitions.
- Open or create a record to configure, for example: AMEX, VISA.
Note: We support fast swipe for credit, debit, and gift cards.
- Select the Payment Type you wish to use for the Card Definition. When a card belonging to this Card Definition is swiped at POS, the system will immediately begin processing payment for the current transaction using the selected Payment Type.
- Save the Card Definition record.
- Repeat steps 1 to 3 for any other Card Definitions you wish to configure automatic payment processing for.
- (Optional) In Maintenance > System settings, update POSShowLoyaltyScreenAfterSwipe to Yes so that the Loyalty Screen is displayed after a Loyalty card has been swiped.
Making a fast swipe payment at POS
- On POS, swipe a card when viewing one of the following screens:
- Main Selling Screen (this means the Tickets, Concessions, or Tabs pages)
- Alternative Tickets Screen
- Payment Screen
- If the card swiped matches a Card Definition with a Payment Type configured, POS automatically pays off the order with that Payment Type.
Note: If POS can only process a partial payment with the payment card, the Payment Screen is displayed so that the outstanding amount can be paid off by another method.
Loading Loyalty members with the fast swipe function
- On POS, swipe a card when viewing one of the following screens:
- Main Selling Screen (this means the Tickets, Concessions, or Tabs pages)
- Alternative Tickets Screen
- Payment Screen
- If the card swiped is recognised as a Loyalty card, POS automatically loads the member against the order.
Note: If the system setting POSShowLoyaltyScreenAfterSwipe is set to Yes, the Loyalty Screen is displayed with the member's details. If it is set to No, POS remains on whatever screen it was viewing when the card was swiped.
Troubleshooting
When a card is swiped, POS may display the error message "Unable to process card payment." You can ask Vista to consult the logs for a more detailed explanation..
The reason may be one of the following:
- The swiped card number is not within the Range of any configured Card Definition.
- The Card Definition that matches the swiped card is not configured with any Payment Type.
