In a food and beverage environment, it isn't unusual to have your guests ask to add extra items to their multi-course order or to change the delivery sequence. If your cinema uses Automatic Hold and Fire, your POS operators can update an order from the POS Order screen without it affecting your Item Delivery Groups. This ensures guests experience a quick and efficient delivery service, while maintaining clear order and delivery information for POS and kitchen staff.
The following examples illustrate how automatic hold and fire operates in common scenarios.
Note: For these examples, the following configuration in the Item Delivery Group cabinet will be referenced:

Example 1: Delivery of starter, main, and dessert
Your guest orders a starter (caesar salad), main (steak and fries), and dessert (ice cream sundae). The guest’s order is displayed on the POS Order screen.
The items your guest ordered are delivered using your organisation’s configured hold and fire times.
- Caesar salad = delivered as soon as preparation is complete.
- Steak and fries = to be delivered 15 minutes after the caesar salad is delivered to the guest.
- Ice cream sundae = to be delivered 30 minutes after the steak and fries are delivered to the guest. This will be displayed at POS as being 45 minutes after the order has been completed.
Example 2: Starter bumped to main
Your guest orders three starters (caesar salad, wedges, and garlic bread). The guest’s order is displayed on the POS Order screen.
Your guest asks to have their caesar salad delivered as their main course.
Your POS operator taps the hold and fire button to move the caesar salad from a starter to a main.
The caesar salad is moved to the delivery time associated with the Mains item delivery group.
- Wedges and garlic bread = delivered as soon as preparation is complete.
- Caesar salad = delivered 15 minutes after the wedges and garlic bread are delivered to the guest.
Example 3: Drink to be delivered with main course
Your guest orders a starter (caesar salad), main (steak and fries), and dessert (ice cream sundae). The guest’s order is displayed on the POS Order screen.
Your guest adds a drink to their order. They ask for their drink to be delivered with their main course.
Your POS operator taps the hold and fire button to bump the drink to the main course.
Note: Items that aren’t assigned to an item delivery group are configured to be automatically held. However, these items can be manually moved to an item delivery group by using the hold and fire button.
Tip: Use the hold and fire button to cycle through your delivery groups to change the item delivery group.
- Caesar salad = delivered as soon as preparation is complete.
- Steak and fries and drink = to be delivered 15 minutes after the caesar salad is delivered to the guest.
- Ice cream sundae = to be delivered 30 minutes after the steak and fries and drink are delivered to the guest. This will be displayed at POS as being 45 minutes after the order has been completed.
