The Screens form is where you manage the details of your screens, including seating capacity, house costs and schedule requirements.
There are three places you can view and edit your screen details:
- Head Office > Maintenance > Screens: Centrally manage the screens for all sites in a desktop form. Changes must be downloaded to Cinema Manager before they will take effect. This form provides the most configuration settings.
- Cinema Manager > Maintenance > Screens (web page): Manage the screens for your site on the web.
- Cinema Manager > Maintenance > Screens: Manage the screens for your site in a desktop form. This is a legacy form, so new features will not be available.
Tip: We recommend creating and editing screens in Head Office, then downloading them to Cinema Manager. See Downloading screens from Head Office to Cinema Manager.
Note: There are minor differences between setting names and locations in different forms. Some settings are only available in Head Office.
Screen tab
| Option | Allowed Values | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Screen number | 1–4 numeric characters |
The number assigned to the screen. Note: Screens belonging to the same cinema must have different screen numbers. |
| Cinema | Any configured cinema |
The cinema normally associated with this screen. Sessions created at this screen will be automatically associated with the specified cinema for reporting purposes, unless a film programmer chooses a different cinema when creating sessions. |
| Name | 1–25 characters |
The name displayed in reports. For example: Cinema 4 Note: This field is optional, and can also be configured in alternate languages. |
| Short name / Short description | 1–10 characters |
The name that is displayed at POS. For example: 4, GC-1 |
| Description | 1–50 characters |
The description displayed in reports. You may wish to list the characteristics of the screen in this field. For example: 280 seats, digital 3D. |
| Projection group | Any configured projection group |
The projection group to which this screen belongs. Cinema complexes with multiple projection booths may divide screens into projection groups to allow reporting on projection and door staff in different parts of the complex. |
| House cost (Head Office only) |
The house cost amount that will be paid for the film hire contract for this screen. | |
| Report code | 1–15 characters | Used for reporting to external organisations, such as governments. |
| Suppress number on ticket |
cleared selected |
Prevents the Screen ID number from being printed on tickets. The Screen ID is a unique, automatically-generated number sequence that identifies each cinema screen. The Screen ID may correspond to the screen's name (for example, "Screen 4" may have a Screen ID of "4"), but this is not necessarily the case. As some cinemas no longer use traditional numbering, the screen's Name is usually a better identifier for the screen. For example, a cinema that refers to its IMAX screen (with Screen ID "10") simply as "IMAX" may choose to prevent the Screen ID from being printed on tickets using this option. Note: This option is only provided for backward compatibility with older versions of Vista software. In this version of Vista, screens are best identified on tickets by including the screen Name (which may include digits) in a print template. |
| Ticket message | 1–50 characters |
A message that will appear on tickets printed for sessions at this screen. This can be configured on the ticket template. You may wish to use this field to list the tax number associated with this auditorium (if required by your country's tax laws), or to promote the auditorium's special features. For example: Dolby Digital, DTS, RealD Note: This field may also be configured in alternate languages. |
| Attributes | Any configured attribute (cleared or selected) |
The attributes possessed by the screen. For example: Gold Class, Digital, 3D. Attributes enforce matching between the screen and movie format when scheduling sessions, to prevent films being scheduled in screens that cannot play them. For example: Films with the movie format Digital Cinemascope, requiring the attribute Digital, cannot be scheduled in screens that only have a 35mm projector. Note: Films may be configured with their own attributes, or they may inherit them from their movie format. Matching is only made between the movie format of the film and the attributes of the screen, and not directly between attributes. |
| New Layout | Create a new screen layout for the screen. | |
| Open Layout | Open and edit the selected screen layout. | |
| Delete Layout | Remove the selected screen layout from the screen. | |
| Copy Layouts | Copy screen layouts from other screens. | |
| Name | The name of the screen layout associated with this screen. | |
| Default |
cleared selected |
If the checkbox is selected, the screen layout is used as the default for sessions in this screen. Only one layout can be the default for a screen. |
| Description | The description of the screen layout. |
Scheduling tab
| Option | Allowed Values | Description |
| Linked screen number / Linked To Screen No | Any screen configured in the same cinema |
Another screen in the same cinema, to which this screen is linked. This is useful if the content playing on one screen is simultaneously fed to another. |

cleared selected |
When the checkbox is cleared, the screen is considered inactive. Inactive screens have an Inactive icon in Showtime Manager. You can hide inactive screens to avoid scheduling sessions onto them. See Hiding inactive screens in Showtime Manager. |
| Earliest start weekday / Earliest Start Normal | Any time of day | The earliest time on a weekday that the auto-fill function in Showtime Manager will schedule sessions to start on this screen. |
