To ensure customers aren't misusing vouchers or gift cards, you can create these records with randomised, automatically generated 4-digit PINs. You can then have customers authenticate their voucher or gift card by entering the PIN upon redemption. In addition, if a voucher or gift card's barcode or magnetic stripe is unreadable, POS operators can use its PIN for verification instead.
Create or update the Voucher Type record
- In Voucher Manager, go to Maintenance > Voucher Types.
- Open an existing Voucher Type record or create a new one.
Important! If you've already generated stock for a Voucher Type, you can't start using PINs. You'll need a new Voucher Type record for vouchers or gift cards with PINs.
- Select the Requires PIN for Redemption check box.
- Select the Generate Random PINs check box.
- Click Save.
Generate voucher or gift card stock
To order stock for vouchers with random PINs:
- Create a new Stock Order or Client Order. When you save the order, a file is generated that contains the randomised PINs to be printed.
- In the stock or client order, click Barcodes. Save the .csv file of PINs and corresponding to the voucher or gift card serial numbers.
Note: When you ask your printer for a run of vouchers or gift cards, send the .csv file to specify the individual PINs to print. For gift cards, we recommend that you have your printer add the serial number to the gift card for easy reference.
