To sell a weight-based item (such as weighed sweets) you'll need to create a weight-based component and a packaging component and add the two to a recipe item. The recipe combines the components into a single item for sale at POS.
Setting up the weight-based component
- In Cinema Manager or Head Office, go to .
- Create or open an item.
- Set the Item Type to Weight based comp.
- On the Stock Details tab, set the Base Unit, Selling Unit and Stock Unit(s)
- If the Selling Unit or Stock Units are different to the Base Unit, enter Conversion factors.
For example: If the Base Unit is Kilogram and the Selling Unit is Gram, then the Conversion factor will be 0.001.
- On the Pricing tab, enter the Standard Cost.
Setting up the packaging component
- In Cinema Manager or Head Office, go to .
- Create or open an item.
- Set the Item Type to Component.
- On the Stock Details tab, set the Base Unit, Selling Unit and Stock Unit(s).
- If the Selling Unit or Stock Units are different to the Base Unit, then you must enter Conversion factors.
For example: If the Base Unit is Each and Stock Unit 1 is a Box that contains 100 bags, then the Conversion factor for Stock Unit 1 will be 100.
- If you want to exclude the weight of packaging from price calculations, enter the Tare Weight.
Note: The Tare Weight must be in the units used by your scales. Enter the value displayed on your scales when you weigh the packaging. Tare Weight can only be used if all of your scales weigh in the same units.
- On the Pricing tab, enter the Standard Cost.
Setting up the recipe
- In Cinema Manager or Head Office, go to .
- Set the Item Type to Made at sale time (Recipe).
Note: The Base Unit and Selling Unit for the Recipe must be the same as the Base Unit and Selling Unit for your weight-based component.
- On the Pricing tab, enter the Retail Price.
- In the grid, expand the row for the item you have created.
- In Recipe Items, add your weight-based component and packaging component.

For example: Self-Service Sweets could have the options Small Candy Bag, Medium Candy Bag and Large Candy Bag.
