Item classes can be used to give items different sales tax rates depending on the area in which they are sold.
In some food and beverage environments, food is taxed at different rates depending on whether it is sold via table service or self-service. Some items are sold in both locations, but are cheaper at the counter due to a lower tax rate.
For example: The cinema restaurant has three sections: the main table-service restaurant, the bar, and a self-service buffet. Salads are sold in all three sections, but with different tax rates:
- Food Tax - 8%
- Bar Food Tax - 10%
- Self-service Food Tax - 5%
