The Movie Formats maintenance form in Head Office lets you create and edit movie formats, which can be used to represent which medium your films are available for, and the technological capabilities needed to screen them.
Option | Allowed Values | Description |
Name |
1–30 characters |
The name of the Movie Format, displayed on reports. A name can also be specified in the Alternate Language. |
Short Name |
1–10 characters |
A short name for the Movie Format, in case the full name is too long. A short name can also be specified in the Alternate Language. |
GL Account |
Any configured Revenue General Ledger Account |
The revenue generated from tickets sales to sessions screening films configured with the Movie Format will be recorded against the selected GL Account. This will override the GL Account configured as the Sales A/C Code on Ticket Types. If left blank, the sales revenue from each ticket will be recorded against the Ticket Type's sales code. |
Default Session Type |
Any configured Session Type |
The Session Type associated with the Movie Format by default. For example: Normal Session, Digital Session. When sessions are created, they will automatically be assigned with the Default Session Type of the Movie Format assigned to the scheduled film. This is useful if your organisation uses Session Types to represent Projection Programs. For example: The Movie Format 35mm CinemaScope might be configured with the Default Session Type representing the projection program for a CinemaScope feature. The Default Session Type can be overridden when scheduling in the Showtime Manager application. |
Attributes |
Any configured Attribute (selected or cleared) |
The default Attributes associated with the Movie Format. For example: 3D, IMAX Attributes can be configured to enforce matching between screen and film attributes when scheduling sessions, to prevent films being scheduled in screens that cannot play them. For example: Films with the attribute 3D cannot be scheduled in screens that do not have this attribute, such asscreens that only have a 35mm film projector. Each Movie Format should be associated with a Format Attribute that represents the fundamental format requirements. For example: Attributes such as 35mm, 3D and IMAX are Format Attributes. Other Attributes such as Gold Class and Subtitles are not. Note: Films may be configured with their own attributes, or they may inherit them from their Movie Format. |
Default Movie Format |
Cleared Selected |
If the checkbox is selected, the Movie Format will be the default for new Films created. Note: Only one record may have this checkbox selected. If any record is saved with the Default Movie Format field selected, it will automatically be cleared on any other records. |
Digital Format |
Cleared Selected |
If the checkbox is selected, the Movie Format will be marked as Digital; if the checkbox is cleared, it will be marked as non-digital, such as 35mm. This information is posted to third parties such as TMS, and is used in session performance reporting. Note: It is not necessary to create an Attribute Digital to assign to digital formats; this setting should be used instead. An Attribute such as 3D can be assigned to the Movie Format Digital 3D with this setting selected, or it may be assigned to the Movie Format IMAX 3D with this setting cleared (70mm IMAX film). |
Virtual Print Fee |
Cleared Selected |
If the checkbox is selected, sessions screening films configured with the Movie Format will be recorded as having to pay a Virtual Print Fee (VPF) to the film's distributor. Note: This field is only available if the Digital Format checkbox is selected. Non-digital films (35mm) do not have VPFs. |
