You may have items that require a range of preparation times based on how patrons order them. For example, steak, which takes less time to prepare if it's cooked rare and more time if it's well done. You can use modifiers so that these items' preparation times are adjusted automatically based on what patrons select.
Add preparation times to modifiers
- In Maintenance, go to Items or Bulk items.
- Select an existing modifier, or create a new one.
For example, Well done.
- Go to Stock details.
Note: If you're using Bulk Items, go to Stock replenishment.
- Enter a Time to make (min).
- Go to Alternate items.
Note: If you're using Bulk items, go to Alternate selection.
- Select Add to modified item's preparation time.
- Save.
- Repeat steps 1–7 for as many modifiers as you require.
For example, you could create modifiers for Well done, Medium rare, Rare, and Very rare.
Add modifiers to a modification group
- Open the item record for one of your modification groups, or create a new one.
- Go to Alternate items.
- Add all applicable modifiers to the modification group.
For example, you could add Well done, Medium, and Rare to a modification group called Meat temperatures.
- Save.
Add modification groups to an item
- Open the record for the item that requires varying preparation times.
- Go to Alternate Items.
- In Modification Groups, click Insert.
Note: If you're using Bulk Items, click Add modification groups.
- Select all applicable modification groups.
For example, you may select a modification group called Meat temperatures to add to an item called Steak.
- Save.
The item's preparation time now changes, based on the modifiers patrons select. Each time patrons purchase the item and select a modifier, the item and modifier's preparation time will be combined. For example, if the item is a steak with a 1 minute preparation time, and patrons select a Rare modifier that has a 2 minute preparation time, the item will take 3 minutes to prepare.
