PIN pad tipping allows customers to enter a tip using a PIN pad to pay at POS, rather than writing a tip on a paper receipt which the POS operator enters later.
Steps
Configure the POS workstation
- In Head Office or Cinema Manager, go to Maintenance > Workstation Groups.
- Choose a Workstation Group, and select PIN pad tipping enabled.
Note: PIN pad tips cannot be edited after they have been processed.
Update surcharges
When PIN pad tipping is enabled, payment type surcharges can’t be used and only item-based surcharges will appear. If you want to use an existing payment type surcharge for a Workstation Group with PIN pad tipping enabled, you will need to update it to an item type.
- In Head Office or Cinema manager, go to Maintenance > Order Surcharges.
- Open the existing surcharge you want to update.
- Under Reporting, select Report surcharge as Sundry Item.

If you want suggested tip percentages to include the surcharge, select Include surcharge in total when calculating suggested tip percentages.
Note: Some PIN pads will not support percentages based on anything but the full order total.
Tip: You may need to create a new item to use for this specific purpose. All other surcharge configuration can remain the same.
After you finish
Once a workstation group is configured for PIN pad tips, customers paying using the PIN pad will be prompted to add a tip when they pay. The POS operator can still add and edit tips from customers using on-receipt (paper) tipping.
