How are moviegoers in Movio linked to app users?

With Airship, Movio uses a process called ‘Named Users’ to identify moviegoers through their loyalty ID when they log into your app. This data is sent from the app to Airship, and Movio then pulls this mapping on a daily basis.

It’s currently not possible to send push notifications to moviegoers who aren’t part of a loyalty program as they have no identifier Movio can use.

Can I send push notifications through Movio Cinema if I use a Vista App?

Yes. This will require implementation work in Movio and Vista. If you wish to send push notifications using the Vista App, please directly contact your Movio Account Manager

What type of reporting is available?

At the moment, Movio Cinema will report on the number of push notifications sent in a campaign in addition to the usual financial reporting.

What is the maximum size of the messages allowed?

Each platform has a different payload limit.

iOS: Max limit is set to 2,048 bytes

Android: Max limit is set to 4,096 bytes

This shouldn't be a concern for most use cases as push notifications should be short and to the point. Additionally, the editor will display an indicator at the bottom of the content input box telling the user whether the notification length is appropriate.

How often does data get passed to Movio?

Movio poll Airship for Named Users once a day.

Movio poll Airship for subscription status every hour.

How are unsubscribes handled?

App users opt-out of push notifications through the app, which is controlled on a device level and cannot be changed within Movio Cinema.

When an app user opts out of push notifications on their device, this is recorded by Airship's SDK. This status is checked every hour and synced to a subscription category in Movio Cinema.
